What is Rebreather Diving?

A closed circuit rebreather (CCR) simply recycles the gas that we normally exhale and by adding more Oxygen and removing Carbon Dioxide, keeps the optimum breathing mixture available through all points of the dive.

I don't want to be a tec diver - what benefits would there be?

When divers hear about the benefits of diving CCR, they are always surprised. Warm breathing gas slows cooling during dives. Moist breathing gas means less risk of dehydration. Silent operation leads to closer interaction with marine life. Because bubbles are only released on ascent, fishes treat you as one of them! Since the optimum Oxygen content is maintained by the machine - you always have the best Nitrox mix for any part of your dive. Decompression is optimised as the Nitrogen part of the breathing gas is kept to the minimum level for the current depth.

It sounds complicated - I'd like to try it, but think it may be difficult. What are my options?

Diving CCR is actually a fully automated process - it's very straightforward... You can either try CCR - with an informative introduction to the equipment and how it works followed by a carefully supervised dive from one of our house reefs... or simply enrol on a CCR diving course, such as TDI's Air Diluent CCR diver. Many recreational and technical courses are modular, and CCR courses are no exception. The first level is similar to an advanced open water certification, but imagine being able to stay at 20 metres for up to 3 hours without ANY decompression!

I'm already a CCR Diver. What is there for me?

We make daily CCR diving out of Sharm El Sheikh, with our full-time tec instructor staff who are also very experienced guides, with many thousands of hours spent diving the tec sites of the Red Sea. Alternatively, why not expand your training by enrolling on an additional course during your vacation. Our instructors are all full trimix open circuit and closed circuit instructors - between us, we teach the full range of technical diving courses on open circuit and CCR!

What about the dive sites?

Sharm benefits from access to some of the best diving sites in the area... Thomas Canyon, Woodhouse caves, Jackfish Alley, Shark Reef, Eel Garden Canyon to name a few. We also have access to all the classic Dahabian sites like Blue Hole and Canyon through our satellite office at Circle Divers in Dahab. Click here for more details of the dive sites available in and around Sharm.

Can anyone try rebreather?

Subject to a self-declaration medical, the majority of divers can try CCR diving. Course pre-requisites for the core levels are easy to attain, and the steps to increase your rebreather diving career allow for smooth and steady progression through the various stages.

What about my non-rebreather diving partner?

We cater for backmount, sidemount and rebreather divers. The facilities at Circle Divers ensure comfortable recreational dives from the same boats used by the tec team - you can share the day on the boat, and share the details of the amazing tec dives back at the centre!
